DE's Education Insight draws foundation visit

Release Date: Mar 18, 2013 10:40 AM

Representatives from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation will be visiting Delaware Thursday to review the First State’s use of its Education Insight system, which allows educators to make data-driven decisions to improve instruction and learning.

The system is designed to be a one-stop for student, class, school and district performance information.

Some of the technology being used in the project was developed by the Foundation and is being used by a number of states and districts across the country. On Thursday, foundation officials will visit two schools to see the dashboard in action.

The web-based “dashboards” provide educators access to timely and actionable information on all students to help manage academic performance and anticipate issues that could arise throughout the year. By aggregating data from existing sources, teachers get  a comprehensive view of each student -- including items such as student biographical information, schedule, attendance, assessment scores, grades and credits -- as well as roll-up views of the data for classrooms, schools and districts.

More information on the project is available here.

Members of the media are invited to join the 1 p.m. school visit to Clayton Intermediate School in the Smyrna School District. To join, please RSVP to public information officer Alison Kepner by Wednesday at akepner@doe.k12.de.us.
