Delaware students bring home honors from FCCLA national conference

Delaware students recently brought earned honors at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) 2012 National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. More than 6,000 FCCLA student members from across the country attended the national conference, which featured competitive events and leadership skill development as well as a myriad of workshops for students and advisers.

Delaware student members worked hard all year preparing to show their best at this national competitive event, and their efforts were recognized in multiple events:

Bronze Medal Winners:

Spencer Hornes, Cape Henlopen High School (Cape Henlopen School District), Culinary Arts

Diana Wilson, Smyrna High School (Smyrna School District), Life Event Planning

Breanna Warton , Smyrna High School (Smyrna School District), Life Event Planning

These young people represent the largest group yet that Delaware has sent to this national event, and many of them, along with their advisers, already are looking ahead toward next year’s event in Nashville in July 2013.

Adviser Sheryl Ford of Caesar Rodney High School also was honored at this year’s conference with the Spirit of Advising Award.  Another highlight was Samantha Rogers, Delaware FCCLA president, representing the state by carrying our Delaware flag during the opening session.  Delaware also received the Membership Increase Award for the North Atlantic Region, and State Adviser Rita Hovermale was honored for service as the chair of the State Advisers Team.
