Delaware wins $4.6 million grant to support longitudinal data system
Delaware has been awarded a $4.6 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences in support of its statewide longitudinal data systems. Twenty other states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands also won awards ranging from $2.6 million to $5 million. The grants totaled $97 million.
Delaware was one of eight first-time winners of the award, which supports three-year projects to either: design, develop and implement a statewide, longitudinal kindergarten through grade 12 data system; develop and link early childhood data with the state’s K-12 system; or develop and link postsecondary and/or workforce data with the state’s K-12 system.
“This grant will allow Delaware to expand on work completed as part of the state’s Race to the Top plan, addressing data gaps and providing support so our teachers and principals can effectively and easily use educational information to drive instruction and better meet our students’ needs,” Secretary of Education Mark Murphy said.
This grant will help the state respond to the needs of teachers and schools, adding content to the analytic and reporting capabilities of the state’s system. By linking local assessment scores to the other data already in the system, teachers will be able to build their local assessments, present them online to their students, score them and analyze the results for interpretation within the context of their own curriculum. This grant also will support training of educators who use the data system to improve and maintain data quality as well as to ensure proper interpretation and use of the data and reports. In addition to direct training activities, this project will create an on-going resource of materials for training and support. Finally, the grant will support the migration of old data repositories and reports to the system.
