Two Delaware teachers earn national honor

Release Date: Jun 13, 2012 1:00 PM

Secretary of Education Mark Murphy congratulates two Brandywine School District teachers who have been named recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Mary Pinkston, a mathematics teacher at Brandywine High School, and Michael Kaufmann, a science teacher a Concord High School, both have received the highest national recognition for K-12 mathematics or science teachers. Pinkston also was Delaware’s 2010 State Teacher of the Year.

“The judging panel of leading scientists, mathematicians and educators have recognized what Mary and Michael’s students experience every day in their classrooms: great teaching that leads to great learning. This recognition is well deserved, and I congratulate both on this immense honor,” Murphy said.

Each will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation and will be honored in Washington, D.C., later this month. Find the White House press release here:
