DigiGirlz encourages girls to pursue careers in science, technology, math

What: DigiGirlz, an event to motivate 8th and 9th grade girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), will take place for the second year. Wilmington University's Dover site will host the event that is sponsored by Microsoft, Delaware Department of Technology and Information, the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware Center of Educational Technology.

When: Tuesday, May 1

8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Wilmington University – Dover Campus

Purpose: To engage young women in lively discussions about technology. To help dispel the many myths about women in STEM careers and to make an impact on the young women who will make up tomorrow’s workforce.

Keynote speakers: Dr. Lillian Lowery, Delaware Secretary of Education, will speak on ways to encouraging girls to take on leadership roles. Ellen Kullman, the first female CEO of DuPont, will speak on the role of women in technology. 

Photo opportunities: Meet and greet with the girls in the morning and then watch them partake in a robotics workshop.
