Release Date: Apr 20, 2012 2:00 PM

NOTE TO MEDIA: I am forwarding the following statement at the request of the State Board of Education

The Delaware State Board of Education congratulates Former Secretary of Education Dr. Lillian M. Lowery in her new role as Maryland’s State Superintendent of Education.  The State Board has high regard for her bold leadership in driving critical reforms for Delaware, most notably our successful Race to the Top bid bringing Delawareans from all perspectives together on one accord for the success of our students.   State Board President Dr. Teri Quinn Gray said, “We thank Dr. Lowery not only for her strength in leadership, but also for the supportive working relationship she maintains with the Board.  We applaud her steadfast commitment to education and wish her all the best in the upcoming transition to Maryland.”

The State Board of Education looks forward to working with the next Secretary of Education to continue the success and growth of Delaware’s educational system.  “Delaware has a strong team working on critical educational reform initiatives and the State Board looks forward to continuing these efforts with Former Secretary Lowery’s successor,” Gray said.
