Delaware Technology Student Association State Conference to promote academic and career skills for Middle and High School Students

Release Date: Apr 17, 2012 3:00 PM

---Students from all three counties to compete---

State Conference

Who: Middle and high school students from across the state

What: Delaware Technology Student Association State Conference

When: Thursday, April 26 and Friday April 27, 2012

Where: Delaware State Fairgrounds (Harrington, DE)

Why: Over 500 students and advisors from across the state will gather to demonstrate their academic and career skills in a variety of hands-on competitive events at the annual Technology Student Association (TSA) State Conference.

This year’s State Conference that will be held on April 26-27 at the State Fairgrounds has had a record-breaking registration, with more than a 25% increase. Five new schools will be attending this year, with 29 chapters attending in total. There are nearly 900 entries for different events that range from CAD to Desktop Publishing to Dragster Design.

Delaware TSA’s service project this year is the American Cancer Society. A mini Relay for Life will be taking place during the conference. Chapters are encouraged to create teams and collect contributions prior to the event by going to www.relayforlife.org/detsade.

TSA is a youth leadership development organization for students enrolled in Technology Education classes. Professionals from many technical fields will serve as judges for the competitive events, which help prepare the students for their roles as leaders for the future. The top students selected will be eligible to represent Delaware at the National TSA Conference in Nashville, TN this summer.

TSA competitions provide a hands-on venue for learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) beyond the classroom and give students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests. Together, chapter members work on competitive events, attend conferences on the state and national levels and organize service projects in the community. Students learn leadership as members and may also run for officer positions in their chapter, state or nation. In addition to the competitions that will take place at the conference, voting delegates will select the next team of state officers.

Media Note: April 26 is the best day for photography and videography. There will be many events to feature, including students working with robotics, drag-racing cars, structural engineering, problem solving, flight endurance, rocketry and more. Events may be photographed, but competition rules prevent shooting during student presentations. Please check in with Mike Fitzgerald, who is the Delaware TSA State Advisor when you arrive on site. A schedule of events is available on the Delaware TSA website.
