High School Seniors Invited to Apply for National Youth Science Camp

Release Date: Dec 29, 2011 10:40 AM

--Two students will be selected to receive full scholarships to the nearly month-long camp ---

Two graduating high school seniors will receive full scholarships to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds while participating in the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia this summer. The nearly month-long experience (June 27 to July 21, 2012) includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation; overnight expeditions into the Monongahela National Forest; and a visit to Washington, D.C.  The selected delegates must not only demonstrate academic achievement in science but also show potential for thoughtful scientific leadership.

The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status.  Contributions to the National Youth Science Foundation® allow delegates to participate in this “once in a lifetime” experience.  Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip airfare are covered.

The application period opens Jan. 1, 2012 and runs until Feb. 29, 2012. Applicants must commit to the entire NYSC time. Application packets are available from John Moyer, Delaware State NYSC Coordinator at the Delaware Department of Education, by contacting him at jmoyer@doe.k12.de.us.  For more information on NYSC and to see images of previous camps, visit the website www.nysc.org.
