Delaware TSA Students Bring Home Awards From National Conference
-Students from 10 schools and all three counties competed at national conference-
Delaware Technology Student Association Students (DETSA) brought home numerous awards, including three first-place finishes, from the National Technology Student Association Conference in Dallas last week. Fifty-four students competed in more than 70 individual, and 65 team events that were based on principles and concepts learned throughout the school year in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related content.
High school and middle school students, guided by their teachers and chaperones, competed against more than 4,000 peers from throughout the world in events such as biotechnology, CAD, career preparation, chapter team, construction technology, dragster design, engineering design, essays on technology, flight endurance, leadership strategies, photographic technology, problem solving, promotional graphics, robotics, structural engineering, system control technology, technical drawing, transportation modeling and more.
The conference, with a theme of “Snapshot of Innovation,” recognized the innovative potential of students as they continue to pursue engineering and technological careers.
Conference Honors and Highlights
- Pratyusha Gupta of Caesar Rodney High School was elected to provide service and leadership for nearly 150,000-members from throughout the world as the National Technology Student Association (TSA) President.
- Delaware was honored for raising nearly $47,000 for the American Cancer Society as part of its national service project. The conference attendees also took part in the TSA/ACS Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back commemorative event. Delaware and Mt. Pleasant High School were recognized for the Spirit of Service Award.
- Tim Elmer of Caesar Rodney High School was honored as a High School Advisor of the Year.
- John Singer of P. S. duPont Middle School was honored as a Middle School Advisor of the Year.
