Teachers of the Year to Visit Legislative Hall

Who: 2011 State Teacher of the Year Joe Masiello and Delaware’s 2011 district Teachers of the Year
What: Teachers addressing legislators on Race to the Top and other education issues in Delaware as lawmakers vote on a concurrent resolution honoring the educators
When: 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011
Where: Legislative Hall in Dover (will begin in House chamber then move to Senate)
Why: 2011 State Teacher of the Year Joe Masiello, joined by many of the 2011 district Teachers of the Year, will address lawmakers Thursday to talk about how the state’s reform efforts under Delaware’s Race to the Top plan are playing out in the state’s classrooms. The visit comes as the state nears the one-year anniversary of its top-place finish for the federal competitive grant. Delaware is receiving $119 million over four years to implement an ambitious plan to raise achievement of students across the state.
Resolution sponsors are Sen. David Sokola and Rep. Teresa Schooley, who chair the Senate and House’s respective education committees.
The teachers will be available for media interviews following the visit.
