Background:
Delaware’s Secretary of Education and former Girl Scout, Dr. Lillian Lowery, will receive the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay’s 2011 Woman of Distinction Award. The Award honors professional women who have become role models for today’s youth.
Delaware Governor Jack Markell and First Lady Carla Markell are Honorary Co-Chairs of the event, which will unveil a new video featuring Dr. Lowery and executives from Delaware industries discussing the critical importance of education, excellence and collaboration, and the role of Girl Scouting in building female leaders. The video will be shown to all middle school students statewide.
A roundtable discussion prior to the reception will enable Dr. Lowery and corporate representatives to answer questions from 60-plus Girl Scouts eager to learn about career options.
