Release Date: May 11, 2010 8:16 AM

--Seventy-three seniors recognized for exemplary academic achievement--

(Dover, De.) Top students from Delaware’s 38 public and charter high schools were honored this evening as exemplary scholars of the graduating Class of 2008 by government and education officials at the annual Secretary of Education’s Scholars Dinner held at the Sheraton Inn and Conference Center in Dover.

The scholars were nominated by their principals and selected for the honor based on a record of academic excellence as well as community service. Many students recognized this evening have received awards of state, regional or national significance. Tonight’s dinner is meant to give recognition to the students for their many achievements and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence.

“Tonight, we honor 73 incredibly talented young men and women who will soon continue their academic journey,” said Lillian M. Lowery, Ed.D., Secretary of Education. “These amazing high school seniors will further their studies to become physicists, engineers, doctors, lawyers, teachers and artists. They have the tools, the talent and the will to make a difference not only their lives but in the lives of all of us here tonight. I wish each of them continued success in their future endeavors.”
