Delaware Inclusion Conference To Help Families, Educators, Child Care Providers, and Other Professionals

(Dover, DE.) A collaboration of agencies and programs will converge tomorrow at the Sheraton Inn and Conference Center in Dover for the 16th annual Inclusion Conference beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Nearly 600 educators, parents, policymakers, service providers, and childcare providers from across the state are scheduled to attend.  The conference is sponsored by the Delaware Department of Education, Birth to Three Early Intervention System/DHSS, the Center for Disabilities Studies and Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative at the University of Delaware, Delaware Head Start Association, Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council, and Parent Information Center of Delaware serve children and youth with disabilities.  

The keynote speaker will be Paula Kluth, Ph.D., consultant, teacher, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners.  Dr. Kluth is a former special educator who has served as a classroom teacher, consulting teacher and inclusion facilitator.  Her research and professional interests include differentiating instruction and supporting students with autism and significant disabilities in inclusive classrooms.

 During the conference, Dr. Kluth will discuss a vision for the future and talk specifically about what beliefs, values, and practices associated with inclusion will help educators succeed in educating, challenging, motivating and supporting all learners.

Following her keynote address, five workshops will be held with nationally-known speakers.  These workshops will address important areas relative to effective inclusion including, teaching strategies, positive behavior support, technology, access to the general education curriculum, and early childhood.
