“Ten years ago, in 2000, we began our statewide assessment in science and social studies,” said Secretary of Education Lillian M. Lowery. “Since that time, we have seen tremendous growth in both grades and in both subject areas. In fourth grade science, we have seen a ten percentage point improvement while in grade 6, nearly 17 percentage points in growth has occurred. In grade 4 social studies, the numbers have increased more than 15 percentage points, while in grade 6, that increase is more than 12 percentage points.” Added Former Secretary Lowery, “I am proud of all of our educators who work day in and day out to ensure our children get the education they deserve.”
