DE Board Member Dr. Terry Wittaker Chosen as Director of National Association
Arlington, Va. - Dr. Terry Whittaker, a member of the Delaware State Board of Education, was elected to the board of directors of the National Association of State Boards of Education NASBE. Whittaker will begin his two-year term as a director from NASBE's Northeast region in January 2010.
"Terry Whittaker brings a wealth of experience in higher education to the NASBE board, which will benefit greatly from his perspective," said NASBE Executive Director Brenda Welburn. "He and the rest of our board provide their fellow policymakers from across the country the support and diversity of opinion so critical to finding solutions to the educational needs of American students in the 21st century."
Whittaker, of Middletown, DE, was appointed to the state board of education in 2007. He has been an administrator at the University of Delaware for 24 years, where he currently serves as the Assistant Provost for Student Diversity and Success. Whittaker serves on numerous civic boards and committees, including the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Founding Board of Directors 2000-present, United Way of Delaware Board of Directors 2003-present, Christiana Care Health System - Trustee Member 2002-present, Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering Board of Directors 1992-present, and the Aberdeen Civic Association Board of Directors 2001-present.
