Educator Licenses go Electronic

Release Date: Mar 26, 2009 2:20 PM

---Technology will save the State $12,000 annually---

(Dover, DE.)  Starting this week, the Department of Education (DOE) will begin issuing educator credentials electronically.  Previously, the credentials were sent through the mail to the educator and a copy was provided to their school district or charter school.  Now, DOE will be able to send out processed credentials immediately.  This will result in saving more than $12,000 annually in postage and handling fees for over 6,000 paper copy requests that DOE receives each year.  These requests include licenses, certificates, paraeducator permits, and evaluation letters.

“This is long overdue,” said Lillian M. Lowery, Secretary of Education.  “In an era of efficiency, this is one small step we can take to further improve customer satisfaction while at the same time save hard-earned tax dollars.  I applaud the efforts of my staff and Diamond Technologies for assisting us in this transition.”

Diane Donohue, president of the Delaware State Education Association, is also pleased with these improvements.  “It is a win-win situation for all. It is imperative, however, that all educators who are registered with the Delaware Educator Data System (DEEDS) keep their email address updated in the system.”

DOE urges educators (teachers, administrators, specialists, speech pathologists and paraeducators) to verify their email address in DEEDS in order to receive emails, updates and other DEEDS-related correspondence.  Educators will soon have the ability to log on and print their credentials.  Credentials can be verified on the DOE website under “Find Educator” at https://deeds.doe.k12.de.us.

Delaware's Department of Education is committed to promoting the highest quality education for every Delaware student by providing visionary leadership and superior service.
