Gov. Minner Appoints G. Patrick Heffernan to DE State Board of Education

Dover
– Governor Ruth Ann Minner announced today that G. Patrick Heffernan is the newest member of the Delaware State Board of Education. He was appointed by Gov. Minner and confirmed by the state Senate.

“Patrick’s experience on various boards and committees throughout his community and our state has prepared him well for his new position,” Gov. Minner said. “I look forward to the new perspective and positive change he will bring to our State Board of Education.”

Heffernan serves as the co-president of the Brandywine Special Needs PTA and was chairman of the Policy and Law Committee for the Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Children from 2007 to 2008. Heffernan worked with fellow community members and Brandywine School District staff to develop the district’s current five-year strategic plan. He also coached an Odyssey of the Mind team from Harlan Elementary and has been active in programs at the YMCA.

“I am honored by my appointment to the State Board of Education,” said Heffernan. “I look forward to working with the Secretary, my fellow board members and staff at the Department of Education to build on the gains our students have already made.”

Heffernan graduated from Concord High School and has a degree in chemistry from the University of Delaware. He is currently employed as a manager in the Information Technology field and lives in the Wilmington area with his wife, Debra, and their three children.
