---Smyrna teacher also receives national recognition---

(Dover, DE.)  At this year’s recent National Leadership Meeting of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), eleven Delaware students walked away with medals for competition in “Students Taking Action with Recognition” (STAR) events.  In an outstanding performance, Delaware students earned four gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze medal. 

• Earning gold medals were: David Wade and Kelly Haugh of Caesar Rodney High School and Corinne Dries and Stephanie Cerafisi of Smyrna High School. 
• Earning silver medals were: Amy Micklos of  Newark High School;  Emily Sullivan, W.T. Chipman Middle School; Liz Williams, Taylor Buckley and Charlotte Betley of A.I. duPont High School; and Melissa Purnell, Caesar Rodney High School. 
• Earning a bronze medal was Courtney DeWitt of Caesar Rodney High School.

Geralyn Dries, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Smyrna High School received the 2008 Spirit of Advising Award, bestowed on only one FCCLA chapter adviser from each state.

The FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences Education.  FCCLA has more than 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters from 50 state associations and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.
