"MARCH FOR THE ARTS IN EDUCATION" ON THURSDAY
( Dover, DE.) The fourth annual “March for the Arts in Education” celebration will be held on Thursday, April 26th at Legislative Hall in Dover beginning at 10:00 a.m. Students and teachers throughout the State will gather on the Green across from Legislative Hall for a celebration of dance, music, theater and visual arts in our public schools.
Scheduled performances are as follows:
10:00 Cab Calloway School of the Arts under the direction of Carlton Cannon
10:30 Central Middle School Madrigal Choir under the direction of Ellen Ditmer; Central Middle School Dance Team under the direction of Rosetta Roach
11:00 Beacon Middle School Concert Band under the direction of William Bennett
11:30 Mariner Middle School under the direction of Ellsworth Tolliver
12:00 Cape Henlopen Jazz Band under the direction of Barry Eli
12:30 University of Delaware Brass Band under the direction of Jay Hildebrandt
1:00 Booker T. Washington Chorus under the direction of Heather Akers
1:30 New Castle County Vo-Tech Jazz Combo under the direction of Kara Villanelli
Mr. Richard Farmer, musician and member of Delaware’s State Board of Education and Mr. Bob Emmons, president elect of the Delaware Music Educators Association, will serve as masters of ceremonies for the event.
The following groups will perform at 2:00 for the opening sessions of the House of Representatives and the Senate on Thursday:
Newark High School String Quartet under the direction of Rosaria Macera
Southern Delaware School of the Arts Choir under the direction of Denise Adkins
“March for the Arts in Education” is an annual event celebrated as a result of legislation sponsored in 2003 by Senator Dori A. Connor (12th Senatorial District) and Representative Bethany Hall-Long (8th Representative District). The celebration is a collaboration with the Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware Division of the Arts, the Delaware Music Educators Association and the Art Educators of Delaware.
March for the Arts in Education supports Reaching Higher for Student Success, an ongoing collaborative effort led by the Delaware’s Department of Education designed to ensure that Delaware students graduate prepared for success in college, work and citizenship.|
