Legislative Essay Winners to Receive Awards

WHO:

Lieutenant Governor John C. Carney Jr. ; Senator David P. Sokola, (D-8th Senatorial District; Secretary of Education Valerie A. Woodruff; former Representative Wayne A. Smith (R-Brandywine Hundred-North); Legislative Essay Scholarship recipients: Courtney K. Keitel (1st place – Dover High School); Joshua A. Marks (2nd place – Brandywine High School); Theresa M. Brock (3rd place – William Penn High School); Delaware Higher Education Commission representatives; family members, invited guests.

WHAT:

Awarding of scholarships and trophies to three statewide winners of the seventh annual Legislative Essay Scholarship contest. 

WHEN:

Thursday, March 29, 11:00 a.m.

WHERE:

Delaware Room, Delaware Public Archives, Dover

WHY: Each year, the Legislative Essay Scholarship Contest is held for all high school seniors in Delaware. The essay topic changes annually and focuses on events, people, philosophies, technologies, governments, or ideals in American history from approximately 1770 to 1860. This year, students were asked to address the following topic: The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal." How true was this concept then and is it true today?
