Educators Learn from Business Leaders
Through Externship Program
Wilmington, Del.–June 14, 2006Delaware educators will spend three days at local businesses throughout the state learning how to bring the business world to the classroom through the Teacher Externship Program. The goal of this cooperative program, which opens the door between business and education, is to better educate teachers about the expectations business professionals have for the future work force. Educators in turn can use this knowledge in preparing their students for careers after school.
The program has grown from five companies and seven educators in 2000 to 36 companies and 71 educators this year. The program will run from June 19 through June 23 and will include companies and educators from every county in Delaware. The 2006 program concludes with a half-day workshop where teachers convene to discuss what they have learned, and how they plan to apply their experiences back into the classroom in the fall.
