H.S. Students Earn Engineering Scholarships
Wilmington, Del.–February 16, 2006The Delaware Engineering Society (DES) today announced the names of eight Delaware high school students who have received scholarships to help them on their path to becoming engineers.The scholarships are funded by engineering organizations and professionals in Delaware to provide financial support to aspiring engineers.
The annual scholarships are open to all Delaware high school seniors who will enroll in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college engineering program in Fall 2006.Funds for the scholarships are administered by the Delaware Higher Education Commission (DHEC).
The Joe J. Welker, Jr., P.E. Memorial Scholarship is a $2,000 award and is being provided to the following seniors:- Jennifer Chan – Brandywine High School (Biomedical/Chemical Engineering)
- Krista Schnell – The Tatnall School (Mechanical Engineering)
- Kyle Srivastava – Charter School of Wilmington (Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering)
The funds for these scholarships are provided by the annual DES Golf Tournament and Engineers Week Banquet.
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE–Delmar Section) provides funding through the following firms:Apex Engineering, Applied Control Engineering, Dade Berhing, Delmarva Power, Duffield Associates, duPont, and SWE Delmar Section.This year’s recipients are:- Jennifer Chan – Brandywine High School (Biomedical/Chemical Engineering)
- Mariel Harvey – Brandywine High School (Chemical/Environmental Engineering)
- Krista Schnell – The Tatnall School (Mechanical Engineering)
- Maegen Wren – Sussex Central High School (Civil Engineering)
- Elaine Yang – Charter School of Wilmington (Biomedical Engineering)
All of the recipients will be recognized at the National Engineer’s Week Banquet to be held on February 23, 2006 at the DuPont Country Club.
