'Grow With Books' Library Collection Expands

Release Date: Dec 7, 2005 1:00 AM

Dover, Del.–December 7, 2005 The Grow With Books program funded by Delaware’s Department of Education has added thirteen new books to its collection. Available in public libraries statewide, the number of titles in the collection has now reached 165.

Grow With Books has existed in Delaware for more than ten years, donating books to libraries all over the state annually. The program provides and highlights books for parents and children that address the challenges of raising a child and growing up in today’s world.

The books in the collection for adults ranges in issues such as parenting an adopted child, nutrition for expectant mothers, and pediatric health concerns. The children’s books discuss concepts of diversity, siblings with epilepsy and lighter topics such as anxiety over the first day of school. The thirteen books added to the collection this year explore topics on children’s social and emotional health, autism spectrum disorders and eating disorders in children.

“Expanding the Grow With Books program provides our public library system with important resources to help Delaware’s parents. The Department of Education is pleased to work collaboratively with the Department of Health and Social Services to increase the availability of books addressing specific issues and needs which face today’s parents. The additional collection of story books is especially valuable in fostering acceptance and appreciation for the diversity and uniqueness of children.”

County libraries in Kent, Sussex and New Castle are each quipped with the full collection of 165 books which are available through interlibrary loan to all local library patrons. Other libraries in each county contain a core selection of the books.

Delaware's Department of Education is committed to promoting the highest quality education for every Delaware student by providing visionary leadership and superior service.
