Kevin Charles New DIAA Executive Director
Secretary Woodruff Approves Selection Committee Recommendation
Dover, Del.–August 2, 2005 Secretary Valerie A. Woodruff has approved the recommendation for Kevin E. Charles to succeed Jack Holloway as Executive Director for the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA). Mr. Charles replaces Jack Holloway who has accepted a position with the Tower Hill School in Wilmington.
Mr. Charles, 51, of Rising Sun, was previously employed with the Division of Public Health in Dover before retiring in 2004. He is an active member of the Delaware Wrestling Officials Association (DWOA) and served on their board of directors for more than 25 years. He also served 17 years as an Assigner, responsible for scheduling officials to sporting events; worked seven years as the DIAA State Wrestling Rules Interpreter; chaired the DIAA State Wrestling Committee for the past five years; and was the DIAA State Wrestling Tournament Director for 5 years for both dual and individual tournaments.
A graduate of Dover High School, Mr. Charles has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Delaware.

DIAA functions as the official designee of the Secretary of Education with the authority to implement the Department of Education’s rules and regulations governing the conduct of interscholastic athletics. DIAA is intended to preserve and promote the educational significance of interscholastic athletics; ensure that interscholastic sports remains compatible with the educational mission of the member schools; provide for fair competition between member schools; promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior; establish and enforce standards of conduct for athletes, coaches, administrator, officials and spectators; protect the physical well-being of athletes; and promote healthy adolescent lifestyles. DIAA currently has 89 member schools; runs state tournament events for 23 different boys and girls sports; and operates five standing and 19 sport specific committees.
