“March for the Arts in Education” on Tuesday

Students Statewide to Perform at Legislative Hall

Dover, Del.–April 17, 2005The second annual “March for the Arts in Education” celebration will be held on Tuesday, April 19th at Legislative Hall in Dover.Students and teachers throughout the State will gather on the Green across from Legislative Hall for a celebration of dance, music, theater and visual arts in our schools.Beverly Corelle, Executive Director for the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA) will be the master of ceremonies.

Performances are as follows:
1:15 p.m. Cab Calloway School of the Arts Symphony, Red Clay School District
–under the direction of Bob Emmons
1:50 p.m. Mariner Middle School Band, Cape Henlopen School District
–under the direction of Ellsworth Tolliver
2:30 p.m. Central Delaware Dance Academy
–choreography by Kelly Bocchetti
2:50 p.m. Central Middle School, Capital School District
–under the direction of Rosetta Roach

The following groups have or will perform at 2:00 p.m. for the opening sessions of the House and Senate on the following dates:
April 12th Middletown High School Select Choir
–Senate Chambers under the direction of Voni Perrine
April 13th Lake Forest Central Elementary Jazz Band
–House Chambers under the direction of Joe Baione
April 14th William Henry Middle School, Capital Strings
–Senate Chambers under the direction of Velvet Siegel
April 19th Wheatley Middle School Chorus
–Senate Chambers under the direction of Carolyn Whitt
April 19th Sussex Central High School Chorus
–House Chambers under the direction of Rebecca Hale

“March for the Arts in Education” is an annual event celebrated as a result of legislation sponsored in 2003 by Senator Dori A. Connor (12th Senatorial District) and Representative Bethany Hall-Long (8th Representative District).The celebration is a collaboration with the Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware Music Educators Association and the Art Educators of Delaware.
