Students Capture National Honors at BPA Conf.
Students Garner National Recognition, Leadership Positions
Dover, Del.–May 12, 2003 More than 130 Delaware high school business students and advisors recently joined more than 5,000 conference delegates from across the country to participate at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) annual National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas,where students participated in national-level business skill competitions, workshops and industry certification testing.
During the national officer candidate campaigns and elections, Jacob Breasure, a student from Sussex Technical High Schooland Delaware’s BPA State Vice-President, was elected as the 2003-2004 National Business Professionals of America Secondary Division Vice-President.
Janet Garret, a teacher and advisor with Smyrna High School, was presented with the National Business Professionals of America Outstanding Service Awardwhich recognizes individuals who have dedicated time and effort to promote the objectives of BPA.Garrett also serves as a representative with the Delaware Classroom Educators Advisory Council (CEAC) and is the past national CEAC chairperson.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for middle school, high school and college studentspreparing for careers in business and office occupations. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instructionby giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school.
During the conference, Delaware students demonstrated their knowledge and expertise against high school students from across the countryin more than 50 different categories. Delaware students who finished in the top 10 places are:
