After-School Funding Programs Now Available
Dover, Del.–April 1, 2003 Beginning September 1st, a second round of 21st Century Community Learning Center funds from the U.S. Department of Education will be made available for after-school programs.
The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Education and are available to support before and after-school programming and summer experiences for children in Title I school-wide eligible schools (poverty rate of 40% or higher). The programs will provide children with academic enrichment activities to help them become more successful in school andoffer literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. Programs may be developed for elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Grants for a 21st Century Community Learning Center will be at least $50,000 annually for five years.
Funding for the learning centers will be awarded through a competitive process. Those interested in applying for the funds must first register no later than April 23rd to attend a technical assistance workshop.The workshop will be held in Dover on Wednesday, April 30 at the Delaware Technical andCommunity College’s Terry Campus in Rooms 400A and 400B from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.To register for the workshop, or for more information, contact Linda Welsh at (302) 739-2767 or via e-mail at: lwelsh@doe.k12.de.us.
