The "Best of the Best"; in Chorus and Band Set to Perform in February and March

Dover, Del - January 30, 2003 Turn off the television. Lower the stereo. Push away from the computer game for just a minute. Then listen - listen very closely. At a nearby school, or in a neighbor's home, or even on the street where you live, you just might be able to hear the sound of voices of middle and high school students singing. You might even hear blaring trumpets, bellowing saxophones, squeaky violins and banging drums nearby.

For middle and high school students in Delaware's public, private and parochial schools, February marks that time of the year when choral and instrumental programs are brought together under one roof. The Delaware All State Music Events is a culmination of hundreds of hours of practice, auditions, rehearsals and performances by more than 700 students across the State.

Sponsored by the Delaware Music Educators Association, All State Music Events has brought together students of similar interests and abilities for more than fifty years. It provides young musicians and singers valuable learning opportunities by rehearsing and performing with nationally renowned conductors. In addition to preparing for future performances, rehearsals enable students to learn how to better interpret music while reflecting upon their own work and the work of other musicians.

Performance groups, and number of student members in each group are as follows: Senior High School Chorus (139);Women's High School Chorus (75); Junior Middle School Chorus (158 members); Senior High School Band (95); Junior Middle School Band (98);Middle and High School Orchestra (57); and High School Jazz Band (18). A complete list of student names can be found at www.angelfire.com/de/dmea.
